Dawn: A Gracious and Sustainable Residential Space

Infusing Modern Aesthetics into the Spirit of Home

Taking a route that differs from the minimal Nordic color palette commonly used in residential spaces, designer Chien-Neng Chang presents Dawn, a residential space that exudes a simple yet gracious style. This unique design stands out with its emphasis on elegance and functionality.

In view of sustainability, Chang opts for green coating materials instead of traditional marble walls. This choice not only reduces environmental impact but also allows for easier color changes, enabling a different style with minimal effort. By incorporating these eco-friendly materials, Dawn showcases a commitment to both aesthetics and sustainability.

The project spans 105 square meters and is located in Taichung, Taiwan. It was completed in January 2021 by a team led by Chien-Neng Chang and designer Yu-Ying Sun.

By applying architectural techniques and paying attention to natural ventilation and lighting, Dawn achieves a harmonious balance between man and nature. The flow of the space is meticulously tailored, with every nook and corner designed with purpose. Soft and elegant colors shine through the well-selected decorations, adding a glamorous touch to the overall design.

One of the design's notable challenges was the low girder in the space. However, Chang turned this potential obstacle into a feature that connects the dining and living areas. With the right lighting, the previously low girder now creates an illusion of a wider and more open space, adding depth and layers to the room.

Dawn's exceptional design has garnered recognition in the industry. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious accolade is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Dawn's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and commitment to sustainability contribute to a better world.

With its gracious style, sustainable features, and attention to detail, Dawn sets a new standard for residential spaces, showcasing the possibilities of combining modern aesthetics with functionality.
